Parcel Builder Updates

Parcel Builder Version 2 : Patch 2 for ArcGIS 9.1

Release Date : February 12, 2007

Download Now (6.70 MB)

Overview

This patch includes a number of enhancements and fixes for each component of the Parcel Builder suite, and it is intended for use with ArcGIS 9.1. The MapViewer component has been enhanced to provide a simplified process for creating and managing joins between map layers and external tables. MapViewer also now creates separate configuration files to store user settings for each published map. The full list of changes included with this patch is provided below.

Installation Instructions

This patch requires that Parcel Builder Version 2 be already installed (with or without Patch 1). This patch incorporates all the changes included in Parcel Builder Version 2 Patch 1. It is therefore not necessary to install Patch 1 before installing Patch 2. The user installing this patch must have administrative privileges on the machine. To install, click on UpdateV2Patch2.exe.

List of Changes

Parcel Builder Version 2 Patch 2 includes the following enhancements and fixes.

Parcel Builder Administrator

  • Configuration Utility: Debase fields

Previously the assessment debasement fields (Debase1 - Debase6) were required to have a data type of double or float. Parcel Builder Administrator and Parcel Builder Administrator Configuration have been revised to allow any data types for these fields.

  • Improved Oracle support

Several fixes have been made to improve Parcel Builder Administrator's ability to work with Oracle databases.

Parcel Builder MapViewer

  • Join Manager enhancement

The process to set user-defined joins between map layers and external tables has been significantly improved. A description of the new process to set joins follows this list of changes. Following is a summary of the changes:

A new "Join Manager" form has been added to display all user-defined joins set in MapViewer. This form allows users to create, modify, or remove joins to map feature layers.

It is now possible to establish joins on more than one layer in MapViewer. When using the MapViewer Select Parcels tool, MapViewer will only display joined data for the layer specified as the parcel layer. However, it is simple to reset this choice, and thereby make use of the join established on a different layer. In addition, the MapViewer Spatial Query tool will display joined data for the query layer, which can be any feature layer in the map. Multiple external tables may also be joined to a single map layer.

The Join Settings form has been redesigned to simplify the steps needed to join external data to a MapViewer layer. Users can now connect to external data using either Windows or SQL Authentication, specify which joined fields to display, and set the field display order. It is also possible to join data from shapefiles to a map layer. Before establishing a shapefile join, an ODBC connection to the shapefile must be created using the Microsoft Visual FoxPro Driver.

  • Stored settings enhancement

Previously MapViewer settings files were stored in the same directory as the MapViewer.exe program, and it was only possible to maintain settings for a single published map. This has been revised as follows:

A new configuration file named pbmv_settings.xml will now be created and stored in the same directory as the published map file to which it pertains. This file is used to store map-specific information such as user joins, parcel layer specification, and display fields. When working with several maps, it is therefore now a good practice to store each published map file in a separate directory. This will ensure that the pbmv_settings.xml file will contain only information appropriate to that map.

When opened, MapViewer will initially load the published map identified in the pbmv_settings.xml configuration file stored in the same directory as the MapViewer.exe program. This functionality was designed for users primarily working with a single map file.

  • Other Improvements

Only valid point, line, or polygon feature layers can be selected as the Parcel Layer for Selections.
Only a text field can be selected in the Parcel Layer dialog. Once set, this field is used by the Select tool, the Send to Parcel tool, and client applications that transfer values to MapViewer.
Selected features will now flash only three times.
Selected features can now be cleared by clicking on the map outside of any features.
The Print Grid Data tool has been revised.

  •  Updated Join Manager Help

Parcel Builder MapEditor

  • Configuration (Accessed in ArcCatalog, by Feature Class Properties, Parcel Builder Tab)

Revised to always set a default subtype when configuring a layer with the option to load subtypes. Likewise always sets a default subtype in the Tag table.
Revised to work correctly when the LineToTags relationship class is placed within a feature dataset.

  • Conversion (For Annotation and Cartographic Features)

Revised to give a warning message if invalid entries are made in the user input form, while allowing the user to reenter values.
Revised to give a warning message and exit in a wider variety of invalid situations, including; a) classification field contains NULL or blank values; b) unable to form annotation subclass due to invalid character in name or other error situation; c) subtype field already exists in cartographic feature class; d) source feature class contains no records.
Revised so that the correct symbol is shown in the annotation subclass properties menu in the ArcMap table of contents.

  • Find Polygons With Multiple Points

Revised to give a warning message immediately if the selected polygon layer is based on ArcSDE data and has a joined table.
Previously the scratch feature class created in the user's Temp directory was not deleted when the tool closed. The scratch feature class is now automatically deleted.

  • Link PIN to Polygon

Revised to give a warning message immediately if the selected polygon layer is based on ArcSDE data and has a joined table.
Previously the scratch feature class created in the user's Temp directory was not deleted when the tool closed. The scratch feature class is now automatically deleted.
Field names in the input form must now be clicked to be selected; selections no longer change by mouse hovering.

  • Parcel Builder Workflow

The list of available ArcMap editing tools has been updated.

  • PB Add Tagged Line

Revised to set the default subtype when creating a non-tagged line.
Revised to add tags in the situation where the LineToTags relationship class is located inside a feature dataset.

  • Subdivide Block

Revised the map refresh so that the new annotation displays immediately when it is created outside of the envelope defined by the new line features.
Previously the annotation created by this tool was in-line annotation. The tool has been revised to create annotation with the user selected annotation subclass.

  • Tag Inspector

Tags are now displayed alphabetically within the checked and unchecked categories.
Revised to display correct results if the map table of contents contains two or more layers based on tagged feature classes with the same name but from different workspaces.
Revised to work when the target cadastral_line layer has a joined table.
Revised to allow the use of any user-selected forward label name in the LineToTags relationship class. Previously only the name 'Tags' was allowed.

  • Update AlphaTag

Revised to correctly compute the AlphaTag in situations where the feature contains invalid tags (i.e., Tag values not listed in the TagInfo table, or not shown as subtypes of the Tag table).
Revised to set the AlphaTag value for features without any tags as <NONE>.

  • Updated Cursors

The mouse cursors on all Parcel Builder MapEditor tools have been updated to be equally visible against a white or black background. The background color can be set from the ArcMap Main Menu by selecting View > Data Frame Properties > Frame tab and selecting the Background.
