St. Charles, IL - The Sidwell Company, an employee-owned, St. Charles, Illinois-based provider of geographic information systems, aerial photography, photogrammetric and mapping services, is pleased to announce their 80th anniversary. Sidwell was first organized in 1927, when company founder Joe Sidwell purchased the rights to numerous atlases of counties in the Midwest from the W.W. Hixson Mapping Company. From 1947 to 1955, Sidwell experienced steady growth and became established as one of the country’s leading legal descriptive and map-making companies. Other landmarks in the company’s history include: production of more than 8,000 maps detailing more than 1.3 million parcels for Cook County, Illinois (1957); their entry into the photogrammetric field (1960); development of their first geographic information system (GIS) project (1982); and implementation of an employee ownership program or ESOP (1990).
The company continues their philosophy of integrity, innovation, and quality service for the benefit of their clients with the advent of their web hosting capabilities for GIS data (2000); their selection as an ESRI® Foundation Partner of the Year (2003); and the development of Parcel Builder™ software, the leading cadastral mapping productivity toolkit currently available (2004). The latest version of Parcel Builder, which features a new parcel genealogy component, will hit the streets in March, and will featured prominently this summer at the 27th Annual ESRI International User Conference in San Diego, California.
